Hi, I am Simran. Welcome to Boston! I see you’re new here. You are going to love this city because it has so much to offer. I moved to Boston from India in 2018. At first, everything was new and different, but I managed to find my around with a little help. Turn the page to read ab out my journey.

My Room & Food

Here is my room, and that’s a bowl of chicken curry, my comfort food. When I moved to Boston, I was on a tight budget, so I had to locate affordable furniture and grocery stores. Through Boston Connection, I learned of the MIT Furniture Exchange. I found a sturdy bed frame and a few other items at the store and began to design my room as I had envisioned it. Grad school is hard, and on some days, I crave some Indian food, especially chicken curry. On such days, I head over to Patel Brothers, an Indian grocery store that I discovered via the app, and purchase all the ingredients I need to cook my favorite Indian dishes.

Social Connection

That’s me at a silent disco event and Jamaican dance workshop organized by Boston Connection. When I first moved to Boston, I did not know a lot of people. Being away from home was tough at times, and I did feel lonely. Through the events organized by Boston Connection, I met some

wonderful people who have now become good friends of mine, and this helped smoothen the transition from India to Boston.

Exploring Boston’s Food & Culture

Once I arrived in Boston, I was keen to explore and embrace the city’s food and culture. On a lazy Sunday afternoon, my friends and I took the ferry to Georges Island. On the Boston Connection app, we found the itinerary for an evening around Seaport, which made it easy for us to explore the area. Through the app, we learned that lobster rolls are popular in Boston, and headed to Luke’s Lobster for a discounted meal to conclude a fun day.

Our Story

Boston connection was founded with the purpose of connecting newcomers with information and people. We understand how challenging the process of moving from one country to another can be, so we provide a way to help ease the transition and make Boston feel like home. Through a mobile app, Boston Connection provides all the resources you need to navigate through life in the city. We offer information about living essentials and sight-seeing, so you can begin to explore and embrace the city. We also organize events, so members forge strong connections, because home, after all, is built out of people.

Note From Our Founder

A month after I had moved into my apartment in Boston, I was building my study desk. I had never been to the United States before, so everything was new to me. Since I had never had to assemble furniture in my home country, I did not have the necessary tools. But I assumed they would come with the box. To my surprise, the desk arrived with all the tools, except a screwdriver. So, I realized that it helps to have a basic set of tools handy, so the floor of your room is not covered with unassembled furniture! But, more importantly, I discovered the need for a resource to provide helpful suggestions like this one and eliminate the hassle of scanning through multiple platforms for information. So, I created Boston Connection, an app that provides newcomers with access to a range of essential and relevant information, as well as the opportunity to meet and connect with new people to help make Boston feel more like home.
